Henna Lawsonia inermis For Hair Beauty

In ancient Egypt, henna is used not only as hair colorant, but also as hair moisturizer, and nail moist.
Henna is made of leaves to be smoothen, while the additional color is marigold, indigo, blue malva, hibiscus and chamomile. Using henna as hair colorant will not dismiss the original color of hair, on the contrary, it will increase the hair shine.
Most henna in market comes from India, and has been available in some color kinds. But unlike using chemical colorant, henna needs about two to three days result after. So it takes more patience, and it is no need to be panic when our hair becomes clumsy at first days. The hair coloring with henna will last till 3-6 months.
Grey Hair : The Lack of Hair Pigment
What is grey hair actually ? how come it shows while we’re sill young ? According to Dr.Tjut Nurul Alam Jacoeb, skin and sexual specialist from Jakarta Skin Center, the main factor that caused grey hair is genetic factor. Grey hair appears because our hair pieces got lack of pigment.
There are two kinds of pigment in hair :
1. Eomelanin,
This pigment can be found in color people like Asian, Arabic, India, etc. The pigment brings a dark color, so the hair tends to have dark tone.
2. Feomelanin ,
This pigment is in white people. the pigment is yellowish, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have eomelanin, they still do have, but in small quantity. Even the Asian also has feomelanin pigment.
Human has lots of hair roots, and not all of them produce pigment.
Henna as Part of Asian Culture and Souvenir
Using henna for coloring has been like tradition. Especially for the Female Muslims of India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Turkey, and even community from Africa Continent.
In addition to its beauty and self-satisfaction, coloring body-part with Henna is believed to be concerned with health. Foot and foot-sole which is colored with henna will not dried during winter, dry season or even during summer. If there’s a wound on skin surface that is hard to heal, it is allowed to use henna powder, and the wound will heal in a few days.
For muslims, wearing henna to color body part like palm, foot, or for coloring hair is allowed. This is because henna will not obstruct sacred water ( or called wudhu) that must be poured onto certain skin’ surface.
In Haj season like now, in sacred land Makkah, henna is sold galore in markets. Henna is sold in form of powder or paste to be used as souvenir after the Haj community going home to their homeland.
